Abdominal Hysterectomy

Abdominal Hysterectomy- a midline incision of the abdomen to remove the uterus under general anesthesia

Sub total hysterectomy- only fundus of the uterus removed

Total Hysterectomy complete removal of the uterus,including tubes and ovaries ,cervix

Postoperative Care:

  • Monitor vital signs -Blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respiratory rate and record. Inform the physician for any abnormality
  • Check airways, drains, catheter or anything supportive aid from the operating room
  • Check abdominal dressings for any bleeding. Be sure dressing must not soaked with fresh blood
  • There are patient have respiratory difficulties due to prolonged anesthesia- nurse must be alert on this when patient have difficulty of breathing by noisy and irregular respiration, choking or cyanosis (bluesh discoloration )
  • Care of the indwelling catheter- should be in place and urine must flow freely. Must have to remove on the third day and encouraged the patient to urinate freely
  • No foods for the first day or second day .
  • Start at oral fluids then soft diet
  • second day may sit and stand and on the third day may walk around the bed. Walk slowly and support the abdomen. Be sure someone with you during first ambulation. Early ambulation facilitates faster wound healing
  • Advise patient to wear abdominal binder or girdle
  • Emotional support to patient and let her to ask questions
  • Patients needs to know that sexual relations and physical activities may be resume if operation fully healed

Kapag nababasa ko itong mga surgical procedures na ito, naaalala ko ang mga pinagagawa namin noon sa college, pati na rin nung nag-practice na ako sa Philippines. Sa animals nga lang. Hahahah!

Nakaka-miss po! Dito sa Au hindi pa ako makapag-practice kailangan pa mag take ng exam. Buti na rin kasi di ko na kailangang mag-aral pa rito, exam nalang.
